Who collects this data?
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has developed a network of monitoring sites that spans the entire commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia DEQ has one of the finest monitoring networks in the nation.
- Virginia DEQ - The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality is responsible for overseeing and protecting the commonwealth's human and natural resouces. The Virginia DEQ maintains and operates all of the monitoring stations in their network with the exception of two sites operated by the USDA Forest Service and the National Park Service.
- Oth Gov - Other government agencies. Local governments in most of the major metropolitan areas of Virginia have historically had their own monitoring programs. Currently, no other government agencies are supplying data to the Virginia DEQ network.
- Private - Private industy. Many private industry groups or consortiums conduct their own monitoring - primarily around plants and facilities belonging to group members. Currently, no private industry groups are supplying data to the Virginia DEQ network.
- Other - Other entities or agencies that have monitoring sites. Currently, no other groups are supplying data to the Virginia DEQ network.
